Winadu Cares
Winadu helps Haiti
Long before the recent devasting earthquake, the Camp Winadu
community extended to this impoverished corner of the world. In 2003,
Camp Winadu founded a
program that enables men from Haiti to work at camp, primarily on the
kitchen/dining
room and maintenance staffs. Their summer earnings from Camp Winadu go
into the
infrastructure of a co-op of 9 villages, building the only school. At
the same time, the Haitian staff members joyfully share
their culture with camp with special songs and music at Campership.
Shelley, Jerry Charson, Winadu's head Chef, and longtime Camp Winadu
friend, Bob Petricca will be making their second trip to Haiti this
April to help rebuild the school destroyed by the earthquake.
Winadu Sports-a-Thon
Winadu campers participate in a camp-wide sports-a-thon to raise funds for the Ethan H. Freed Winadu Scholarship Fund.
From lay ups to football tosses to soccer goals, each camper challenges
himself to do the best he can, supported by the sponsorship of family
and friends. The whole Winadu community comes together in support of this worthy cause.
America's Camp
Camp
Winadu was a proud participant in the 9 summers of America’s Camp, a one-week camp for
children of 9/11 victims.
