Camp Winadu Sports - Basketball
Our basketball facilities are fantastic eight outdoor courts of varying sizes fit all of our campers. The Win-A-Dome, our indoor facility, is a collegiate-style gym. And we have six more indoor courts for rainy day use. Our "Shooter's Court" has 10 baskets side-by-side giving us the opportunity to teach individual shooting skills.
Our basketball instruction emphasizes efficient practice techniques. During drills, each boy gets his own basketball. With over 30 baskets in camp, we split boys up into groups of 3 or 4 where they have an opportunity for quality practice.
Clinics in basketball include:
Defense: Man to Man, Zones and Presses are all taught. Campers learn that a good offense starts with a good defense.
Shooting: Walking through the steps of proper shooting form and what to think about while shooting the ball. We even have a special 10 hoop shooters court.
Weak Hand: Learning to go "the other way." The most popular basketball clinic at Winadu teaches boys to use their weak hand and be confident moving the basketball in either direction.
Our NBA days offer boys the chance to participate in a day-long competitions. Each team has its own coach and plays up to six games a day. We also have summer long NCAA and NIT leagues.
Every boy, from the most advanced to the beginner, receives the same high-quality basketball coaching from the same coaches. Because boys are divided into small groups, instruction is geared to ability. Many boys come to Winadu who have never played in a basketball league. After a summer at Winadu, many of these same boys join leagues at home.
