EHFW Scholarship Fund
Ethan H. Freed Winadu
Scholarship Fund

Founded in 2007, The Ethan
H. Freed Winadu Scholarship Fund (EHFWSF) was established to provide
academic scholarships for members of the Winadu community who were in need of
financial aid in order to achieve their educational goals. The EHFWSF serves both former campers and counselors, as well as camp
staff, to help defray the costs of a college education. Since its creation, the EHFWSF has raised
over $100,000 towards scholarships and has already awarded grants to a number
of highly deserving candidates with close and deep ties to Camp Winadu.
The EHFWSF was
founded by long-time Winadu Camp Directors Shelley and Arleen Weiner in honor
of Ethan H. Freed, a 13 year old camper who passed away in 2006. As a Winadu camper since a young
age, Ethan was a leader as
an athlete, camper and friend. The
EHFWSF’s mission of assisting those
less fortunate embodies the ideals of Ethan, who always offered a helping hand
and consideration for others.
The EHFWSF is a
non-profit charitable organization that solicits tax deductible donations from
individuals, corporations and foundations. The EHFWSF’s Board
of Directors is comprised of Shelley and Arleen Weiner, members of the Freed
family, and several independent philanthropists. The EHFWSF
encourages individuals who have been or are part of the Winadu community and in
need of financial aid to apply. Applications can be requested by emailing winadu@campwinadu.com.
